Hi and welcome. Rob here with this edition of the Stationery Freaks newsletter.
We love a good whiteboard. And we firmly believe they fall under the “stationery” category.
That’s why we’ve done an entire cast on how we use them, how our kids use them and how we used to use them in the office. You can listen here.
There’s something pretty cool about the ephemeral nature of whiteboards - the content on them isn’t designed to last (although we share stories from work about how we had to keep writing “do not wipe!” on the boards).
For example, Helen’s daughter is studying A’Level Chemistry and she uses a whiteboard for revising calculations etc. Then tests herself and wipes it clean to start the process again.
My son uses a small portable whiteboard for doodling, then wipes it clean and starts again. I love how he isn’t bothered about posterity - just the sheer, in the moment, act of drawing.
We used to use them at work for tracking work, or drawing out processes for improvement. At one point, a giant floor to ceiling whiteboard, held our real-time release process that we kept modifying as we got smoother.
I use them in my home office for tracking editorial calendars, goals or simple measures of how many products I’ve released live.
The humble and trusty whiteboard really is a simple device that can be used in countless ways. How do you use them?
And, as promised here are the photos Helen mentions in the podcast.
You can listen to it here.
A fun game where people draw either a head, body or legs. Then we stick them together to create unique characters.
An on-going list that people added to. What started off as someone canvassing opinion on what games console they should replace their Xbox 360 with, turned into a fun list.
Interesting Finds
Nice. Nice. Nice
Nice idea.
Stationery Goals
I think these are designed for kids…..but we want them
Very good.
Helen will be jealous
Dedication to a brand - and the neatness that using the same notebook brings. I switch sizes, brands and shape of notebook often…..my shelf doesn’t look like this.
Writing.
That’s it! Hope you have a good week.
